First Kaddish 2015
"Fear insinuates itself into our emotional fibers, the more power we give it, the more it demands."
Dr. Talib Kafaji
First Kaddish was my first self-devised performance, working primarily with movement, text and puppetry. The work was conceived as part of the performance component of Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level Examination for H2 Theatre Studies and Drama.
First Kaddish grapples with the fear of death, loss and abandonment. The performance was anchored within the context of the Holocaust (as a fulfilment the rigid rubric for the performance).
This work also marked a start in my process of working with my body, reclaiming my body and allowing my body to became the main focus in performance. As an 18th year old, I was introduced to Jerzy Grotowski and delved into his work with the physical body.
